This Art Thing
Today, i’m sharing the ideas behind my recent art series.
I’m working to establish myself as an artist.
I want to do this art thing.
I want to have a style and something that you can see as mine as soon as you look at it.
A blended personal and professional pursuit.
It’s not that I wasn’t working on this before,
it’s just that I wasn’t focused.
I want to learn to follow my intuition. My spirit guides.
This art thing feels right in this moment,
so off I go.
One step at a time,
hopefully (more often than not) in the right direction.
I want to learn to feel the momentum.
I understand that failure and rejection are a necessary part of this path.
These things help dertmine said ‘right’ direction.
But these failures, in the past, have caused me to not show my work.
I now take the misteps in stride. (turn them into a dance)
I’m learning that its actually all about these flaws and failures. Everytime they show, i somehow get a little more confident- like i give less f*cks about the externals of this practice. I’m more in tune with what is inside this casing (body). I used to paint layers upon layers and as each flaw presented, i tried harder and harder to cover it.
Now, I’ve turned to the opposite (in some ways). A very different approach. Its a nice feeling- to enjoy the process and not always get stuck trying to fix everything. There is a time for fixing, a time for learning and growing, and a time to just execute. Release it. Show it. Fix it later if you need to, but move on to the next as soon as you can. i still have the perfectionism in me to fall back on if i so desire- but true expression is finally pouring through. The marks, the subjects and the essence of me and my experiences are showing through brush stokes, bold colours and compositions.
I’m so excited to release the collection I have been working on over the last couple of months - in between mom duties and after bedtime routines, I’ve stowed away to create these pieces.
The paintings will be on display for the weekend of October 24th at In Pursuit, Glass Roots, and Picaroons uptown Saint John. Please come! There is a gallery hop happening which will be super fun and fulfilling. Lots of conversation starters (art) to be seen and I don’t know about you, but I like a good wander.

It all begins with an idea.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
